A data cable is what is used to transmit information between different systems such as a business telephone system, personal computers, servers and more hardware. Generally, there are three types of data cables that you could choose from. The type of cable that you select would depend on the environment that it is being used in. Here are some of the different options for data cabling that you could come across.
The twisted pair cable
This type of cable is used in systems for business phones as well as in computer networking. You will find that most cable networks will use the twisted pair, as it comprises of a cover that eliminated signal degradation that could occur from different sources. This type of data cable gets its name from the wires that are twisted throughout the cabling. The twists are also beneficial in the sense that they protect the communications occurring whether in business phones or in computer networking from signal degradation. Typically, the length it would take before signal degradation to occur with this type of cable is several hundred feet.
This type of cable was typically used in years past in old computer networks. Over time, the twisted pair cable replaced the coax cable. However, this does not mean that the coax cable has become redundant. It is now used by a large number of cable networks for the provision of television communication data. This type of data cabling is quite large and round in shape. It has an inner core, which is what is used to transmit data. The inner core is surrounded by an insulator as well as a shield so as to protect the signal of the data communication. One thing to note though is that this type of cable needs a special connector known as a BNC connector.
Fibre optic cable
This type of cable is the most preferred option for people who require fast data connection. The fibre optic cable can be used for both business phone systems as well as for fast internet speeds. The fibre optic cable makes use of light and glass as part of its mechanism to provide fast data connections, making it efficient for both residential and commercial use. Due to the use of glass, this cable is also quite fragile. However, this type of cable does not suffer from signal degradation as the other types of cables used for data connection.Share
